The complication of not launching new series during premiere week is that the sampling is almost never as large two weeks down the line.
Such is was case with the premieres of NBC’s Timeless and ABC’s Conviction, each of which sat on the bench during premiere week and last Monday’s presidential debate. Of the two, Timeless clearly won in its post-Voice slot. But its average 1.9 rating among adult 18-49 and 7.7 million viewers are a far cry from comparable 10 o’clock same-day samplings of The Good Place and This Is Us.
The Voice lost little steam in its Monday episode, out-rating everything on broadcast with the exception of CBS’ The Big Bang Theory. The Voice gave Timeless a 3.0 demo lead-in.
ABC had a much smaller adults 18-49 going into Conviction, though an improved Dancing With the Stars earned a 1.7 rating among adults 18-49. Still, at 10 p.m., Conviction only brought a live-plus-same day score of a 1.0 rating in the key demo and 5.4 million viewers. That makes it among the lowest-rated premieres this season, joining Fox’s Pitch and The Exorcist and ABC’s Notorious.
The Big Bang Theory held steady on CBS with its 3.4 rating among adults 18-49 — but Kevin Can Wait (2.4 adults) dropped 11 percent from last week’s episode. Two hours of Scorpion were competitive but down from last year’s premiere. At 9 o’clock, the drama earned a 1.9 rating in the key demo. At 10 o’clock, it was down to a 1.7 rating.
Both Gotham and Lucifer were off from their most recent episodes, though again quite evenly matched: Fox saw Gotham pull a 1.0 rating in the key demo and Lucifer nab a 1.1 rating.
