NEW YORK – Several new comedies, including Up All Night and New Girl, were among the TV shows that benefited from DVR viewing in the fall TV season’s first Nielsen ratings that include viewing delayed by up to a week, the New York Times reported.
Fox’s New Girl, which drew a debut week rating of 4.8 among the key 18-49-year-old audience, saw its audience for its premiere grow 29 percent to a 6.7 rating when including delayed viewing, it said.
NBC’s Up All Night even recorded a 46 percent boost during premiere week from a 2.4 to a 3.5 rating, according to the Times. And the network’s Whitney went from a 3.3 rating to a 4.2 rating when including DVR viewing.
The Two and Half Men season premiere on CBS, featuring the first appearance by Ashton Kutcher, jumped from a 10.7 rating to a 12.5 rating, the Times said.
For Fox’s Fringe, which has struggled on Friday nights, the DVR viewing data could prove critical though as its viewership rose from a 1.5 rating for its season premiere to a 2.3.
