WWE star James Hellwig, better known as the Ultimate Warrior, has died. He was 54.
“WWE is shocked and deeply saddened to learn of the passing of one of the most iconic WWE superstars ever, The Ultimate Warrior,” the WWE posted on its website on Tuesday. “WWE sends its sincere condolences to Warrior’s family, friends and fans.”

Hellwig began his career at WWE in 1987 and would go on to be one of its biggest stars. He defeated Hulk Hogan in WrestleMania VI in 1990 to become WWE champion.
He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame over the weekend (see below), and appeared on Monday Night Raw one day before he died. The cause of death has not been disclosed.
Hellwig is survived by his wife, Dana, and two daughters.
