Just a few weeks after elevating Bela Bajaria to president and seeing comedy topper Tracey Pakosta move over to the network side, Universal Television and has filled the vacancy in its comedy ranks with two new hires. The studio announced Monday that Mike Clements has been named executive vp comedy development, with Jim Donnelly joining as senior vp of the department.
“Mike Clements is an extremely well-regarded comedy executive,” said Bajaria. “In addition to being very supportive and collaborative with writers, he is excited about helping us launch great comedies. We are pleased to bring him on board to head comedy at the studio where we remain committed to producing innovative and smart break-out comedies.”
Clements, who began his TV career as an NBC assistant, most recently served as head of creative development and originals at animation studio Bento Box. He’s also held jobs at Tom Werner’s Good Humor Television and served as exec producer on HBO cartoon The Life & Times of Tim and NBC comedy Are You There, Chelsea?.
“We’re additionally thrilled that Jim Donnelly has joined us from CBS Studios,” added Bajaria. “I have a longtime relationship with Jim and know firsthand how well he works with the creative community. He’ll be a great addition to our strong comedy team, which includes our talented vp of comedy, Dan Shear.”
Donnelly comes to Universal Television from CBS Studios where he served as vp comedy development, shepherding such series as The Odd Couple and upcoming efforts Angel From Hell and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.
