Spivey has written 24 episodes of the acclaimed NBC show, after contributing to 177 episodes of Saturday Night Live.
Art StreiberUp All Night creator Emily Spivey has joined the writing staff of ABC’s Modern Family.
Executive producer and writer Danny Zuker announced the move on Twitter several weeks after NBC put the final nail in the coffin of Spivey’s troubled sitcom. The writer-creator was one of several to depart Up All Night in January during an ill-fated attempt to turn the comedy into a multicamera effort.

The move to Modern Family does not come as that great of a surprise. The Saturday Night Live alum inked a two-year overall deal with 20th Century Fox Television in February. As a part of the pact, Spivey is developing new projects at the studio while contributing to current fare.
Spivey previously had a deal at Universal TV, where she served as a writer-producer on NBC’s Parks and Recreation before starting Up All Night. Before that she worked as a writing supervisor on SNL, a gig that won her a shared Emmy for outstanding writing in 2002.
She joins previously announced Modern Family addition Stephen Lloyd. The How I Met Your Mother ep will start to segue from the outgoing CBS comedy next season, joining brother and series co-creator/co-showrunner Chris Lloyd.
