The CW is betting on the genre power of Supernatural to launch its high-profile adaptation of DC Comics’ Green Arrow.
Ahead of its upfront presentation to Madison Avenue on Thursday at New York City Center, the young- and female-skewing network said it would launch its 2012-13 fall season in October, moving Supernatural out of Friday purgatory to Wednesdays to pair with its Stephen Amell starrer, Arrow.
Elsewhere, 90210 will jump from Tuesdays to Mondays and serve as a lead-in for the final season of Gossip Girl, which slides back an hour to 9 p.m. In January, Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage‘s Sex and the City prequel The Carrie Diaries will take over the slot.

With returning series on the move in four of the five weekday nights, CW president Mark Pedowitz‘s lineup continues to feature a Schwartz-Savage block, with newly renewed Rachel Bilson doctor drama Hart of Dixie moving to its new home on Tuesdays, where it will launch a “doctor-doctor” night with rookie Mamie Gummer starrer Emily Owens, M.D. (previously First Cut).
Aging reality competition series America’s Next Top Model will move to open Fridays, where it will take over the slot previously occupied by Maggie Q actioner Nikita, which will be bumped back an hour to 9 p.m.
The Beauty and the Beast reboot, featuring the return of Smallville‘s Kristin Kreuk to The CW, will follow the network’s No. 1 series The Vampire Diaries at 9 p.m. Thursdays.
Schwartz and Savage’s second freshman entry, thriller Cult starring The Vampire Diaries‘ Matt Davis, will launch midseason.

Pedowitz trumpeted the net’s continued push to keep the lights on during the summer and add year-round original content in announcing a shift from the traditional September launch to early October.
“One of our biggest priorities this year at the CW was adding more original programming, and we’ve added 50 original hours to our schedule in 2012,” he said Thursday. “With dynamic new dramas for the fall and midseason, and our first-ever summer schedule leading into our October fall launch, this is poised to be a transformative season for The CW.”
