Hilary Smith is moving up the corporate ladder.
Come January, the USA PR chief will be elevated to senior vp of corporate communications at NBCUniversal, filling a position that Cameron Blanchard announced she’d be departing last month. In that role, Smith will serve as a principal spokesperson for the media company and will have communications oversight of all NBCUniversal corporate functions along with the corporate creative agency.
“Hilary is the perfect choice for this role,” said executive vp Adam Miller, to whom she’ll report when she assumes the position in early 2016. “She’s a strong, skilled leader with excellent relationships within the company and in the media. She understands our business, thinks creatively and knows how to get things done. I know she will do a terrific job.”
Like many in NBCU’s PR division, Smith is a company veteran. Most recently, she has run point at USA, publicizing a robust programming slate that includes breakout hit Mr. Robot. Prior to that, she oversaw communications for the NBCUniversal Entertainment & Digital Networks and Integrated Media group, which included Telemundo, Bravo Media, Oxygen Media, Fandango and iVillage. Smith also led marketing for the company’s Integrated Media business, which encompassed such companywide initiatives as Women at NBCU and Green is Universal.
Earlier in her career, the Middlebury grad spent nearly a decade as vp of media relations in the company’s corporate communications department, where she was instrumental in managing the press for several of NBC’s major business transactions, including the NBC and Vivendi Universal Entertainment merger as well as the acquisitions of the television networks Telemundo and Bravo. Smith, a married mother of two, first joined NBC in 1998 as a senior PR manager for Dateline.
