The teens love their Vampire Diaries.
On Sunday night, the CW drama that stars Nina Dobrev, Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley took home five surfboards at this year’s Teen Choice Awards — which were broadcast live to the East Coast — including choice TV sci-fi/fantasy series. The Thursday night drama beat out MTV’s Teen Wolf, the CW’s Smallville (which ended its 10-season run in May), Fox’s Fringe and the CW’s Supernatural.

“These are for you,” Somerhalder told the adolescent-filled crowd at Los Angeles’ Gibson Ampitheater when he and his co-stars accepted their awards onstage.
But Dobrev and Somerhalder weren’t the only ones who were recognized for their performances, taking home awards for choice sci-fi/fantasy actress and actor, respectively. Co-stars Michael Trevino and Kat Graham took home surfboards for choice TV male scene stealer and choice TV female scene stealer, respectively. Trevino plays werewolf Tyler and Graham portrays Elena’s best friend (and witch) Bonnie.

Community stars Gillian Jacobs and Joel McHale poked fun at the “importance” of the category, choice sci-fi/fantasy TV series, making friendly jabs at the government. Before they revealed the winner, the co-stars joked that the government workers were awaiting the winner of the category so they could go back to work.
“I can’t believe it,” McHale, who also hosts E!’s The Soup, deadpanned when the winner was announced.
