Hulu will dig into the history of one of the best-known fashion brands of the past 40 years with a documentary series about Victoria’s Secret.
The three-part series, The Rise and Fall of Victoria’s Secret, comes from director and former Vanity Fair writer Matt Tyrnauer and Peter Berg’s Film 45. Production is underway for a planned debut in early 2022.
The Rise and Fall of Victoria’s Secret will go behind the scenes of the lingerie brand, using first-hand accounts and deep investigative research to reveal the inner workings of Victoria’s Secret the brand and the cultural institution.
The past couple years have been turbulent for Victoria’s Secret. Reports of a toxic workplace culture at the company surfaced early last year, and parent company L Brands sold a majority stake in the brand to private equity firm Sycamore Partners in February 2020. The annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show TV special was canceled in 2019, with CFO Stuart Burgdoerfer saying the special didn’t have “a material impact on the next few days’ [sales] results.”
Tyrnauer (Showtime’s The Reagans, Where’s My Roy Cohn, Apple’s Home) will direct The Rise and Fall of Victoria’s Secret. He also executive produces with his Altimeter Films partner Corey Reeser; Film 45’s Berg, Matt Goldberg and Brandon Carroll; and Elizabeth Rogers. Endeavor Content is handling international sales.
The series joins a documentary roster at Hulu that also includes Hillary, Fyre Fraud, Minding the Gap and I Am Greta, among others.
