The latest viral voice on the Internet belongs to Angelina Jordan, a 7-year-old who auditioned for Norway’s Got Talent with a Billie Holiday hit that brought the show’s judges to tears and captured viewers worldwide.
Jordan, wearing a white dress and no shoes, confidently introduced herself to judges Mia Gundersen, Omer Bhatti, Bjarte Hjelmeland and Lisa Tonne before easing into her audition song: Holiday’s rendition of “Gloomy Sunday.” Her oddly accurate cover earned her a standing ovation in the studio, and over 1.8 million views on YouTube.
“I think you are an old soul who has lived many lives,” said Bhatti, according to YouTube’s English subtitles. “You sing fantastic and I got goose bumps from the very beginning.
Hjelmeland added, “Sometimes when you are an adult, and you see a child that sings, we can’t really understand how it’s possible, because you sing in a way that we believe you have to be old, or even very old, to be able to do … I feel that sad Sunday.”
Of course, all four judges voted her through to the next round, but after going viral, she might as well set her eyes on America to stop by Ellen, as Ellen Degeneres often spotlights budding talent, especially from the international versions of the Got Talent franchise. Last month, she featured India’s Got Talent contestant Akshat Singh, after the 8-year-old’s Bollywood dance video went viral.
