Travis Fimmel‘s character on History’s Vikings has dealt with threats from his earl, the men across the sea and even another Scandinavian group. But according to the star, the biggest menace may come from inside his own family.

The 33-year-old Australian actor recently visited The Hollywood Reporter’s video lounge to talk about the end of season one and what viewers can expect from the future.
On Sunday’s episode, the second to last of the first season, Ragnar Lothbrok took his group of Vikings to a temple to worship and sacrifice. But all season it’s been pretty clear that there’s been underlying tension between Ragnar and his brother, Rollo (Clive Standen).
“There’s a lot of brotherly rivalry between Rollo and my character, Ragnar, and it makes it interesting. There’s great conflicts,” Fimmel says.
He adds that by the end of the season finale (which airs Sunday, April 28), the division between the brothers will be even greater.

” By the end of nine, it really kicks off, and you don’t know whose side our Rollo is on,” he says.
Fimmel adds that the season finale will have “a lot of cliffhangers” and introduce new characters for the next season.
The cable network drama, created by Michael Hirst, was a breakout hit for History and was renewed in April for a 10-episode second season. Production on season two will begin in the summer for a 2014 return.
Fimmel says he has exchanged emails with Hirst and the writers about the upcoming season but has not read any scripts yet.
“I hope they keep a lot of horse stuff in,” he says of his hopes for the second season. “I enjoy the fights. I just hope the scripts are as amazing as they were this year.”
Vikings airs on Sundays at 10 p.m. on History.
