Kai the Hatchet-Wielding Hitchhiker, born Caleb Lawrence McGillivary, shot to unlikely stardom after a TV news report featuring the free-spirited, 24-year-old drifter went viral last February. [UPDATED: McGillivary has been arrested.]
He was hailed as a hero, having stopped with his trusty hatchet a crazed man in Fresno who rammed his vehicle into a utility worker. His victory tour included stops on shows like Jimmy Kimmel Live!.
But McGillivary, 24, is now a wanted man, the prime suspect in a murder case unfolding on the other side of the country, in Clark, N.J.
The victim is Joseph Galfy, a 73-year-old attorney found dead in his home on Monday, May 13. Autopsy results show the cause of death to be blunt force trauma, ABC7 reports.

On Tuesday, May 14, Kai posted a message to his Facebook page saying he had been drugged and raped.
“What would you do if you woke up with a groggy head, metallic taste in your mouth, in a strangers house… walked to the mirror and seen come dripping from the side of your face from your mouth, and started wretching [sic], realizing that someone had drugged, raped, and blown their f–kin load in you? What would you do?” McGillivary wrote.
Police say McGillvary likely cut his hair in an attempt to alter his appearance. He was last seen at a light rail station in Haddonfield, N.J., and is considered to be armed and dangerous.
UPDATE: McGillvary was arrested at a Philadelphia bus station and is being held on $3 million bail, according to an Associated Press report.
More details about his relationship to the victim have surfaced since the arrest.
McGillvary met Galfy in New York City’s Times Square two days prior to police discovering his body. McGillvary then spent two nights at Galfy’s New Jersey home, 20 miles west of New York.
