The top 13 were narrowed down to the top 8 on NBC’s The Voice on Tuesday night. Seven of the semifinalists were automatically voted through, while three had to sing for the Instant Save. Coaches Kelly Clarkson, Blake Shelton, Adam Levine and John Legend watched as some of their artists moved on and some went home.
The first two artists voted through were Team Blake’s Dexter Roberts and Team Legend’s Maelyn Jarmon.
Team Legend then took the stage to sing “I Say a Little Prayer.” Then it was time for more results. Team Blake’s Gyth Rigdon, Team Kelly’s Rod Stokes and Team Legend’s Shawn Sounds all advance.
Host Carson Daly shared that next week’s episode will feature songs from The Beatles. America also voted through Team Blake’s Carter Lloyd Horne and Andrew Sevener. At this point, four of Shelton’s six contestants in the top 13 had made it through to the semifinals.
Team Blake then took the stage to sing “Got My Mind Set on You.” After that, the final results came in. Singing for the Instant Save were Team Adam’s LB Crew and Mari and Team Blake’s Kim Cherry. Team Blake’s Oliv Blu, Team Kelly’s Jej Vinson and Team Legend’s Celia Babini were eliminated.
Cherry sang “My Lovin’ (You’re Never Gonna Get It)” by En Vogue, which was definitely within her wheelhouse. She channeled the throwback vibe of the song while putting some of her own twists on it.
Mari sang “Latch” by Disclosure and gave a dynamic performance that played to the strengths of her tone and artistry.
Crew closed things out with a performance of “Better” by Khalid. He included a lot of ad libs and runs, and he seemed nervous, but his technical skills were still strong. Levine was shocked that both of his artists were in this position.
After the Instant Save votes were in, Cherry joined the others in the top 8. Shelton only ended up losing one artist ahead of the semifinals. Levine has no more artists left in the competition. The top 8 sing live next Monday.
