COLOGNE, Germany – Scandinavian broadcasters are sold on The Voice. Networks in Denmark and Finland have ordered a second season of the spinning chairs singing format The Voice, to be produced by local subsidiaries of French TV giant the Banijay Group.
Denmark’s TV2 commissioned Banijay’s Nordisk FilmTV to deliver season 2 of The Voice for the territory while the Nelonen network in Finland put in the order with production subsidiary Solar Television Oy. Nelonen also ordered a second season of entertainment format So You Think You Can Dance? from Solar Television.
The Voice, originally developed by John de Mol’s Talpa Media, has been a hit across Scandinavia, where local versions are produced by Banijay and its subsidiaries. In Finland, the show nearly tripled Nelonen’s prime time share. The final episode of the first season drew a 37 percent share for Nelonen compared to the station’s average of 10.2 percent.
Banijay said it is currently in talks with Sweden’s TV4 and Norway’s TV2 for a second season of The Voice in those territories.
