Gwen Stefani is taking back her big red chair.
The announcement comes as part of a two-season pickup for the show. Season 12 will mark Stefani’s third turn as a judge, Keys’ second, and the 12th for Levine and Shelton, both whom have been with the NBC singing competition since season one.
Miley Cyrus, who joined The Voice last month with Keys for season 11, will return next fall for season 13. Host Carson Daly is also set to return. Season 12 is set to kick off in February 2017.
“We can’t wait to experience the unique chemistry and energy Gwen, Alicia, Blake and Adam will bring to season 12,” said NBC Entertainment’s alternative and reality group president Paul Telegdy. “With Miley returning for season 13, we’re truly ecstatic about the unmatched musical know-how and talent coming together in our coming seasons.”
So far this season, The Voice is averaging a 4.2 rating among adults 18-49 and 14.7 million viewers. The series has continued to prove an important launching pad for NBC’s younger scripted series, such as Timeless on Mondays and This Is Us on Tuesdays.
Season 11 marked one of the biggest overhauls of the coaches in the show’s history, with Keys and Cyrus taking over for Stefani and Pharrell Williams. (Season 11 also marked the first time there were two female judges on the singing competition.) Other previous judges include Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Usher and Shakira.
This past September saw The Voice win its third Emmy for best reality competition series. Series creator John de Mol exec produces with Mark Burnett, Audrey Morrissey, Jay Bienstock, Lee Metzger and Chad Hines. MGM Television, Talpa Media USA Inc. and Warner Horizon Television produce.
The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on NBC.
