The finale of The Voice delivered the show’s best Tuesday ratings since mid-October, building on the spring 2018 finale but falling short of the close of the fall 2017 cycle.
NBC dominated primetime and also got a bump in late night from Michelle Obama’s visit to The Tonight Show.
The Voice finale, which crowned the competition’s 15th champion, was pretty much the only game in town Tuesday night. The two-hour show averaged a 1.7 rating among adults 18-49 and 9.84 million viewers, up from 1.5 and 8.77 million for the spring cycle — which was the NBC show’s lowest-rated finale ever.
Tuesday’s edition was down 15 percent in the demo (versus 2.0) and 10 percent in viewers (versus 10.91 million) from the fall 2017 finale. A recap show preceding the finale scored a 1.2 in the demo, giving NBC a sweep of primetime.
ABC, CBS and Fox all aired reruns in primetime. The CW got a 0.3 in adults 18-49 from the special Greatest Holiday Commercials Countdown and a 0.2 from Greatest Holiday Video Countdown.
NBC averaged a 1.6 rating among adults 18-49 for the night, equaling the combined numbers for the other four networks. CBS took second with a 0.6, followed by ABC, 0.5; Fox, 0.3; and The CW, 0.2.
In late night, guests Michelle Obama and Ariana Grande propelled The Tonight Show to its best Tuesday rating among adults 18-49 (0.7 in metered markets) in three months. CBS’ Late Show drew a 0.5 in the demo and ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! a 0.4.
