Despite this week’s enriching guest mentorship from Clive Davis, Diana Ross, Colbie Caillat, Christina Aguilera and Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy, two more singers were sent home from The Voice on Tuesday night after failing to collect enough support from voting viewers. (At least they got to gather with their loved ones in Los Angeles for a Voice Thanksgiving feast?)
After a handful of performances — Adam Levine took the stage with his team for Billy Joel‘s “Only the Good Die Young,” Pharrell Williams performed Louis Armstrong‘s “What a Wonderful World” with his singers, and a “permanently smiling” Taylor Swift shared her decadently set single, “Blank Space” — the bottom three were revealed.
The three singers with the lowest number of viewer votes on their Monday night performances were challenged to perform for the #InstantSave, which has audiences at home voting during a fragile five-minute window (via Twitter or the Voice app) to keep one of endangered singers in the competition. (They all surprisingly covered tracks from the singer-songwriter genre of the early 2000s, which inherently don’t show off too much star power or vocal potential, but still, one of them gets to stay on until next week.)
Blake Shelton‘s Reagan James evoked her voice’s interesting texture with Nelly Furtado‘s “I’m Like a Bird,” but it felt limited because it remained in the sixteen-year-old’s lower register. Gwen’s Stefani‘s Anita Antoinette showed her knack for rhythm on Jason Mraz‘s “The Remedy” (and took a risk with a very big note that didn’t sail too smoothly), and her teammate Ryan Sill tried very, very hard to vary the melody of Howie Day‘s “Collide” and show his range, hoping he could nab the #InstantSave for the second time.
Who filled the “Blank Space” this week? Following a commercial break complete with newly visible progress bars, Daly announced that America again saved Sill, sending Antoinette and James home.
