Under the pact, Hurd — whose big-screen credits also include Terminator 2 and The Abyss — will develop and produce new television projects for cable and broadcast networks including the studio’s NBCUniversal siblings USA Network and Syfy.
“Gale’s vision, expertise and superb taste make her and the Valhalla team a trifecta win for UCP,” UCP senior vps Richard Rothstein, Chris Sanagustin and Maira Suro said in a joint statement announcing the news Monday. “We are ecstatic that Valhalla is joining our studio and bolstering our efforts to expand our development — they share our creative commitment, passion for great stories and desire to produce efficiently. We’re confident that this is a collaboration that will be beneficial on multiple fronts.”
Hurd’s Valhalla shingle are already in development on a handful of projects, including pirate drama Port Royal, which is in development at FX with writer Scott Rosenbaum attached. In addition, Valhalla also has a deep roster of comic book-themed efforts including features The Punisher and The Hulk and created the comic The Scourge, among others.
For UCP, the deal marks the latest development deal behind Psych‘s Steve Franks, Royal Pains‘ Michael Rauch and Andrew Lenchewski, Warehouse 13‘s Jack Kenny and Alphas‘ Matt Hastings.
