Rick Grimes was prepared to get really violent at Grady Memorial Hospital.
In a deleted scene from the season-five DVD set, the beleaguered former sheriff (played by Andrew Lincoln) is seen telling Daryl (Norman Reedus) just how far he’ll go if the plan to save Beth (Emily Kinney) and Carol (Melissa McBride) turns south.
“If it’s Carl and Judith, I’ll do anything. … If this goes south, we’ll kill everybody,” an eerily comfortable Rick tells Daryl in the deleted scene from the season-five midseason finale.
As die-hard fans of the zombie drama know, the hostage swap didn’t go nearly as planned. Beth and Carol were reunited with the group after Rick traded the two Grady cops for them. But after Dawn (Christine Woods) asked for Noah to complete the trade, Beth stood her ground and jammed a pair of scissors into her captive’s shoulder, with Dawn’s gun going off immediately and firing a fatal blow to Beth’s head. At that moment, a stunned and saddened Daryl shot and killed Dawn. (Read THR‘s full breakdown of the episode here.)
The Walking Dead‘s fifth season comes out Aug. 25 on Blu-ray and DVD and features more than three hours of bonus features including the clip, above.
