AMC’s The Walking Dead will wrap up season six in style.
The cable network has expanded the April 3 finale from an hour to 90 minutes, AMC announced Monday.
Sources say frequently mentioned but yet to be seen villain Negan — played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan — will make his debut in the season six finale. News of Negan’s casting and subsequent arrival has had diehard comic book fans on edge as the character makes his debut in the landmark 100th issue — in which not everyone makes it out alive. “Everyone is so focused on the finale but the final two [episodes] are full-throttle for sure,” co-star Josh McDermott told THR in this week’s postmortem. “When I read these next two episodes — I typically go through a script in about an hour but I read them both in about 20 minutes because I couldn’t turn the page fast enough. It just left a feeling in my stomach after reading these. We’re in new territory with the show now and we’re telling things in a different way that the show hasn’t done before. It stays with you.”
The Walking Dead’s penultimate episode airs Sunday from 9-10 p.m. on AMC; the season finale is set for April 3 from 9-10:30 p.m. For more Walking Dead coverage, go to THR.com/WalkingDead.
