Jenji Kohan is having a good week.
The Weeds creator had her series about a drug-dealing suburban mom renewed for an eighth season on Thursday and now Netflix is near a deal to pick up her comedy project, Orange is the New Black straight to series.

Sources confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that the DVD-by-mail company is near a deal with Lionsgate TV to order 13 episodes of Orange, co-created by Kohan and Liz Friedman and based on the memoir by Piper Kerman about her year in a women’s prison.
If ultimately ordered to series, Orange would be Netflix’s second series commitment, joining its Media Rights Capital-produced political thriller House of Cards, from David Fincher and Kevin Spacey.

As Netflix continues its push into streaming content, the company has committed $100 million for 26 episodes of Cards, outbidding premium cable network HBO for the property.
