This Week in TV Trailers: ‘Game of Thrones,’ ‘Review,’ John Lithgow’s New Show and More

In the era of Peak TV, there’s more new television airing each week than ever before. To keep it all straight, The Hollywood Reporter will compile a roundup of the week’s biggest trailers for new and returning shows that should not be missed.

In this week’s roundup, the Game of Thrones premiere date is revealed as the first promo for season seven debuts, the first season of This Is Us comes to an end, and Empire‘s Cookie Lyon (Taraji P. Henson) has a new enemy. 

Turn up the volume, pay attention and grab some popcorn to watch the hottest TV promos this week. 

Game of Thrones 

Winter is coming — even though HBO got into a slippery situation Thursday trying to tell fans when exactly that would be. During a Facebook Live event to announce the premiere date, the big reveal wasn’t as smooth as ice. After the video cut out (twice) and after the July 16, 2017, premiere date was finally revealed, HBO offered a cryptic teaser. Here are all the details to know on the show’s penultimate season seven. 

Empire

The Fox drama starring Taraji P. Henson (Cookie) and Terrence Howard (Lucious) returns March 22, with a new trailer offering a peek at Phylicia Rashad facing off against Henson as well as Rumer Willis making music with Jussie Smollett (Jamal). Willis’ real-life mom, Demi Moore is also joining the series along with Eva Longoria, Taye Diggs and Nia Long in the back half of the season.  

This Is Us

The season finale of Dan Fogelman’s breakout NBC family drama airs Tuesday. Here’s the promo for the season finale for the Milo Ventimiglia, Mandy Moore and Sterling K. Brown starrer, which is already renewed for not one, but two more seasons.

Trial and Error 

On March 14, John Lithgow goes from Netflix’s The Crown to being on trial for the slaying of his wife on NBC’s new half-hour comedy series. The serialized comedy follows a wacky defense team trying to prove his innocence. It’s fair to expect a verdict this season as producers noted a potential second season would focus on a different trial.

Nashville

The ABC-turned-CMT drama wrapped the first half of season five this week and, in a rare move, offered an extended promo for what’s to come in the second half — which is awaiting a return date. And yes, there is another cliffhanger and central soapy story following Connie Britton’s exit. The only thing missing from the promo? Details on who new castmembers Rachel Bilson and Kaitlin Doubleday are playing.

Bosch

Amazon Studios’ first original drama, starring Titus Welliver, returns for its third season April 21. Expect more murder, mystery and mayhem in season three. (And don’t fret, it’s already renewed for a fourth season.) 

Harlots

The eight-part Hulu series promises an equal playing field in terms of showing male and female nudity. The brothel drama, bowing March 29, from newcomers Alison Newman and Moira Buffini stars Samantha Morton, Lesley Manville and Jessica Brown Findlay. 

The Flash

It’s another Glee reunion on The CW as the first promo for the upcoming Flash–Supergirl musical episode starring Melissa Benoist and Grant Gustin has debuted. Look for the duo to join forces for something entirely different than saving the world: “Now watch them get down.” The musical airs March 21. 

Snatch

Harry Potter alum Rupert Grint and Gossip Girl‘s Ed Westwick face off in the Crackle dramedy following a messy heist that gets out of hand. The series, which premieres March 16, is inspired by the Guy Richie film that starred Brad Pitt and Benicio Del Toro.

Review

The Comedy Central favorite will launch its third and abbreviated final season March 16. Expect more debauchery and nudity from creator/star Andy Daly.
