Taylor Sheridan’s Paramount Network drama is adding to its ensemble.
Wes Bentley (American Beauty), Kelly Reilly (True Detective), Luke Grimes (American Sniper) and Cole Hauser (Good Will Hunting) have signed on to star alongside Kevin Costner in Yellowstone, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Yellowstone — picked up straight-to-series in May as the first show developed specifically for the rebranded Paramount Network — revolves around the Dutton family, led by John Dutton (Costner), who controls the largest contiguous ranch in the U.S. that is under constant attack by those it borders: land developers, an Indian reservation and America’s first National Park.
The 10-episode drama from Sheridan (Hell or High Water, Sicario) is described as a study of a violent world far from media scrutiny — where land grabs make developers billions, and politicians are bought and sold by the world’s largest oil and lumber corporations. Where drinking water poisoned by fracking wells and unsolved murders are not news, but a consequence of living in the new frontier. It is the best and worst of America seen through the eyes of a family that represents both.
Grimes will play John Dutton’s youngest son, Cory, an emotionally reserved ex-Navy SEAL who lives with his Native American wife and seven-year-old son on the reservation. The actor, whose credits include Fifty Shades of Grey, True Blood and Brothers and Sisters, is repped by CAA, Anonymous Content and Bloom Hergott
Bentley will portray John’s other son, Jamie, a polished lawyer considering a career in politics who continues to seek approval from his father despite his love for the limelight. The Interstellar, Hunger Games and American Horror Story alum is repped by WME, Untitled Entertainment and Morris Yorn.
Hauser rounds out the group as Rip Wheeler, a tough and merciless wrangler from Yellowstone Ranch who will stop at nothing to get the job done. Also known for his roles in 2 Fast 2 Furious and White Oleander, he is repped by APA and Morris Yorn.
Sheridan will write and direct Yellowstone. John and Art Linson (Sons of Anarchy, Fight Club, Heat) will exec produce alongside the Weinstein Co.’s Harvey Weinstein and David Glasser as well as Sheridan and Costner.
Production on the series starts in August in Utah for a summer 2018 premiere.
At Paramount Network, which will take the place of Spike TV at the start of 2018, Yellowstone joins fellow original series American Woman and a reboot of Heathers, both of which were previously developed at fellow Viacom cable channel TV Land.
