‘Westworld’ Season 3 Adds Aaron Paul

Former Breaking Bad star and Emmy winner Aaron Paul is joining HBO’s Westworld for its third season, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

The actor will be a regular on the series, but the show is keeping details of his character a secret for now. Paul will be the second Breaking Bad mainstay to appear on Westworld, following Giancarlo Esposito, who had a memorable cameo in season two.

The Westworld that Paul will step into may look quite a bit different than the one viewers have watched unfold over the first two seasons, as season two ended with a fully upended status quo. Most of the hosts that viewers came to know across the first 20 episodes were either dead or gone from the park — including Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) and Bernard (Jeffrey Wright), both of whom escaped for new lives among humanity, harboring very different intentions toward mankind.

“I’m excited to explore the idea of host as guests, as Bernard and Dolores are guests now,” Wright told THR shortly after the season finale, speculating about Bernard’s future, as well as the show’s own new direction. “The mirror reflection seems that it’s turned on this new [incarnation of] Westworld, and that is the human world. I think the exploration now of [pretending to be] human inside this world as hosts could be rich territory. Once again, it seems there’s a possibility, again, without having read one word of season three, that the worlds are turned upside down and inside out once more.”

For their part, showrunners Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan are promising a “radical shift” for the series in season three.

Paul is currently filming the first season of the anthology series Are You Sleeping for Apple. He also starred in and produced Hulu’s series The Path. The actor is repped by UTA.
