CBS Television Distribution has hit the daily double, renewing Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy for two additional seasons.
The two-season renewals will take syndication’s top two game shows through the 2016 season, and bring Wheel into its 33rd season and Jeopardy through its 32nd with new deals for ABC-owned stations including markets in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, San Francicso, Raleigh-Durham, N.C., and Fresno, Calif., representing 21 percent of U.S. households.
“The ABC Owned Stations have been a fantastic broadcast partner for Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy for the last few decades, and we look forward to many more years of this prosperous relationship,” CBSTVD president of sales Joe DiSalvo said. “Wheel and Jeopardy continue to hit prime-time size ratings every night and truly prove the power that syndicated programming brings to a station’s lineup.”
Wheel averages more than 30 million viewers per week in syndication and has been the No. 1 syndicated game show since its inception. Jeopardy, meanwhile, reaches 25 million viewers each week, placing it second in the metric behind Wheel.
The Jeopardy renewal comes four months after Trebek’s heart attack.
Both shows hail from Sony Pictures Television and executive producer Harry Friedman. They are distributed domestically by CBS Television Distribution and internationally by CBS Studios International.
