J.K. Simmons is set to host Saturday Night Live on Jan. 31, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
It’s the first time Simmons has hosted the NBC sketch-comedy show, although his IMDb credits list him as having appeared on a 1999 episode hosted by Jerry Seinfeld alongside three of his Oz co-stars, who were playing their characters from the show.

The Whiplash star is having a big year, having already earned a Golden Globe Award along with an Oscar nomination for his role as the abusive music teacher to Miles Teller‘s student drummer.
Simmons, a veteran character actor, also is known for roles in Growing Up Fisher, The Closer and Law & Order.

The musical guest on the Jan. 31 episode will be D’Angelo, who recently surprised fans with his first album in nearly 15 years.
