Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar‘s interview with Megyn Kelly on Wednesday night was one of the “hot topics” on Thursday’s episode of The View. The discussion turned fairly heated, as co-host Whoopi Goldberg slammed the Duggars for talking about forgiveness.
During their interview with Kelly, Jim Bob said of his and Michelle’s son Josh — who allegedly molested a number of girls, including his own sisters, when he was young — “If people can see that God could forgive him for these terrible things, then I hope other people realize that God can forgive them.”
“You brought God up, so it makes it OK to say this,” Goldberg said after The View aired that clip of the Duggars‘ interview. “You’re not forgiving of people who feel differently than you. You guys made robocalls about transgender people and said some really horrific stuff, so if you want to find out about forgiveness, I don’t think that this is the way to do it.”
She added: “Don’t bring up God. Don’t do that and talk about God forgiving people, when you don’t have forgiveness in your own heart.”
Michelle recorded a robocall that went out to Fayetteville, Ark., households last year in which she claimed that an ordinance designed to prohibit businesses from discriminating on the basis of “gender identity,” among other factors, would allow “males with past child-predator convictions that claim they are female to have a legal right to enter private areas that are reserved for women and girls.”
“I doubt that Fayetteville parents would stand for a law that would endanger their daughters or allow them to be traumatized by a man joining them in their private space,” said Michelle on the robocall, according to audio posted by the Fayetteville Flyer. “We should never place the preference of an adult over the safety and innocence of a child.”

Goldberg’s fellow View co-host Nicolle Wallace added on Thursday’s show: “This is the trap in politics: It’s hypocrisy. When you say, ‘God will forgive my son who molested my daughter,’ if that’s your worldview, if that’s how you got through it, OK. But then you can’t say that God can’t forgive a transgender person.”
Co-host Rosie Perez, meanwhile, said she was less concerned about the parents and more concerned about the daughters, adding that when information about Josh’s alleged behavior came out, “Those girls got revictimized.”
She said, “They’re all victims, but really the thing is, for those girls, to have the world know, maybe they didn’t want the world to know.”
