Omarosa Manigault Newman’s television promotion tour for her new book, Unhinged, has taken her across the dial. But, she has yet to appear on two of the three biggest cable news networks, CNN and Fox News.
There’s a discrepancy between CNN and Manigault Newman’s camp about whether she was booked on Jake Tapper’s Sunday morning show, State of the Union; she did not appear on the program.
“We had an interview tentatively booked and then they decided not to move forward. They didn’t give an explanation,” said Jennifer Robinson, who is handling Manigault Newman’s television tour as director of publicity for Gallery Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster.
A person with knowledge of CNN’s booking process, however, said that Manigault Newman was never formally scheduled to appear. (Robinson told The Hollywood Reporter about the planned CNN appearance Aug. 13.)
Still, Robinson said her team is “hoping to do something” with CNN host Van Jones in September. A CNN spokesperson did not respond when asked about future plans to book Manigault Newman.
While she has yet to be interviewed on the network, a person with knowledge of the situation said that several CNN personalities have reached out to Manigault Newman’s camp about setting up interviews, though no efforts have yet come to fruition.
She had turned down other interview opportunities Sunday in order to appear on Tapper’s show, which caused frustration, according to the person. She ultimately appeared on Rev. Al Sharpton’s Sunday morning show on MSNBC, Politics Nation.
While Manigault Newman has yet to appear on Fox News, she is expected to do so in the near future. (A network spokesperson did not respond when asked last week if she would be booked on the channel.)
She continues to appear regularly on MSNBC, and appeared Tuesday night with Chris Matthews. “Omarosa says she has video tapes,” Matthews tweeted. “She’s going to bring one to #Hardball tonight at 7.”
Last Thursday, she revealed for the first time on Craig Melvin’s MSNBC show that an attorney for President Donald Trump had sent her publisher a “threatening letter,” which her publisher then responded to.
Correction: The original version of this story said that Manigault Newman discussed a threat to her publisher on Ari Melber’s MSNBC show on Thursday.
