A Wipeout contestant who died last fall after completing the television obstacle course succumbed to a heart attack, according to medical officials.
Michael Paredes, 38, suffered a medical emergency on the Santa Clarita set of the TBS show on Nov. 18. He was treated by on-site medical personnel before being taken to the hospital. He died the next day.
Paredes suffered a heart attack from undetected coronary artery disease, according to the report, cited by NBC News. The toxicology report showed Parades had neither drugs nor alcohol in his system when he died.
Paredes, according to the cited report, had successfully completed two of the Wipeout obstacles before he fell on the third. He struggled to swim to the side of the pool and had to be pulled out and lifted into a wheelchair when he lost consciousness. CPR was performed before was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital, where he was pronounced dead the following day.
All contestants undergo a medical exam before they are cleared to participate in the show.
