St. Louis’ Chris Carpenter and Texas’ C.J. Wilson are the starting pitchers for the 107th World Series Wednesday.
STORY: Why Baseball Playoffs Need Media, Viewers’ Support
Fox will broadcast the best-of-seven event, with Joe Buck providing play-by-play, Tim McCarver giving analysis, and Ken Rosenthal reporting. Both Buck and McCarver are recovering from health ailments: Buck has been dealing with a vocal chord problem all year and McCarver had an angioplasty procedure to his heart two weeks ago. McCarver missed two American League title games while recouping but he told St. Louis Today he “feels fine” after being treated for “what looked like a malfunction inside.”

Fox will also be using infra-red technology dubbed “Fox Hot Spot” during the series. The idea, reports to USA Today, is for “heat-seeking sensors to pinpoint heat made by a ball making contact — with bats, face masks, players’ bodies — and mark the spot for viewers by making it glow.”
American Idol champ Scott McCreery will sing the national anthem before the game. First lady Michelle Obama and Vice President Joe Biden‘s wife Jill will attend the game as part of Major League Baseball’s Welcome Back Veterans program and Mrs. Obama’s Joining Forces Initiative.
