WWE Network is moving to a new streaming home.
The 7-year-old streaming service will be absorbed into NBCUniversal’s Peacock later this year as part of an expansive multi-year agreement between the two companies.
The deal, terms of which were not disclosed, makes Peacock the exclusive streaming home in the U.S. for more than 17,000 hours of new, original and library content from WWE Network, including all live pay-per-view events. The WWE programming will be available at no additional cost for subscribers to Peacock Premium, which costs $5 per month and includes advertising, or Peacock Premium Plus, which offers ad-free viewing for $10 per month.
By bringing WWE Network to Peacock, NBCU expands on a 30-year-old relationship with WWE that began with the broadcasting of Monday Night Raw on USA, noted Rick Cordella, executive vp and chief revenue officer for Peacock, in a statement. “WWE has always tapped into the cultural zeitgeist with spectacular live events and larger-than-life characters, and we are thrilled to be the exclusive home for WWE Network and its millions of fans across the country,” he added. “WWE Network is a transformative addition to the platform and complements Peacock’s massive catalog of iconic movies and shows, as well as the best live news and sports, from NBCUniversal and beyond.”
WWE Network will launch on Peacock on March 18 and will offer both on-demand programming as well as a 24/7 channel within the streamer. Pay-per-view events including WrestleMania, SummerSlam and Fastlane will be available through Peacock, as well original series like Steve Austin Broken Skull Sessions, in-ring shows like NXT, NXT UK and WWE 205 Live, archive programming and documentaries like WWE 24. Peacock will also be the home of replays of Raw and SmackDown. Beginning in 2022, it will release one documentary from WWE Network each year.
“We are thrilled to further the long-standing and trusted partnership WWE has with NBCUniversal,” said WWE president and chief revenue officer Nick Khan in a statement. “Peacock is an innovative platform that will enable us to showcase our most significant events, including WrestleMania, and provide the extraordinary entertainment our fans have come to expect with the combination of premium WWE content, live sports, news, films, and television programs.”
WWE Network launched in 2014 as a standalone streaming service for the entertainment company’s on-demand programming and live pay-per-view events. It’s available in over 180 countries and will continue to be distributed as a standalone streaming service outside of the U.S.
A deal with WWE Network adds a sizable amount of sports programming to Peacock, which launched widely in June 2020. The service is also the U.S. streaming home for Premiere League soccer and is expected to get an additional influx of sports programming following the shutdown of cable network NBCSN. Peacock had 22 million users at the end of October, according to owner Comcast.
