Baskets is coming back.
No episode count was given for the new season, set to return in 2018; however, seasons one and two have run 10 episodes each.
Galifianakis plays the dual roles of twin brothers, Chip and Dale Baskets. Louie Anderson has nabbed an Emmy and a Critics’ Choice Award for his portrayal of their mother, Christine Baskets. Martha Kelly also stars on the comedy, which is set to wrap its second season March 23.
Galifianakis co-created Baskets with Louis C.K. and Jonathan Krisel, who serves as showrunnner. The trio executive produce with M. Blair Breard, Dave Becky, Marc Gurvitz, Andrea Pett-Joseph and Anna Dokoza.
Baskets’ season-two premiere drew 1.13 million viewers in live-plus-three-day numbers, with 586,000 of those coming from the coveted adults 18-49 demographic. The most recent new episode of the half-hour drew 489,000 viewers in the demo with three days of delayed viewing factored in.
“This year Baskets has solidified its standing as one of the best comedies on television, building on the momentum of its breakout first season that brought critical acclaim and awards,” FX president of original programming Nick Grad said in a statement. “Our thanks to Jonathan Krisel, Louis C.K., Zach Galifianakis and the rest of the creative team, Louie Anderson, Martha Kelly and the full cast and crew for taking us on this journey with Baskets.”
For FX, the renewal comes one day after the cabler — along with the BBC — picked up a second season of Tom Hardy drama Taboo. In addition to Baskets, FX and FXX’s comedy slate also includes It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Atlanta, Better Things, You’re the Worst, Man Seeking Woman and Archer.
