HGTV is ready to release another batch of Celebrity IOU episodes — and the series’ return highlights one of the Property Brothers’ partners. Zooey Deschanel will be featured in the Dec. 14 season two premiere.
The series, which partners guest celebrities with Drew and Jonathan Scott to work on surprise renovations for people in said guests’ lives, proved to be an instant hit when it premiered earlier in 2020. Its April premiere, which highlighted Brad Pitt, hit a six-month audience high for HGTV with 2.6 million viewers.
Other Hollywood types set for the first four episodes of the season include This Is Us star Justin Hartley, Emmy and Oscar winner Allison Janney and The Office alum Rainn Wilson. Deschanel’s episode, which finds the New Girl star surprising a longtime friend by transforming a small abode into an open floorplan, comes more than a year after she started dating series star and executive producer Jonahtan Scott.
“Celebrity IOU is so full of heart and just the kind of feel-good energy we all need right now,” said Jonathan. “The idea of giving back resonates with everyone — and, for us, working with these incredibly thoughtful celebrities is so uplifting.”
“Our passion is sharing the gift of home with others and we love being a part of these stories of pure gratitude,” added Drew. “In season one, we were blown away by how hands-on each celebrity was and season two is no different. Everyone is so dedicated because they’re doing this for people they love.”
All told, the first season of Celebrity IOU reached more than 36 million viewers — making it the highest-rated first-year series in HGTV history. First season guests included Pitt, Viola Davis, Melissa McCarthy and Jeremy Renner. It’s another feather in the cap of the Scotts, who produce the series through their Scott Brothers Entertainment shingle and also boast a slew of other HGTV series in the Property Brothers franchise.
“It only took one season of Celebrity IOU to become a household name for millions of fans,” said HGTV president Jane Latman. “This series taps into the emotions of gratitude and appreciation for our loved ones. Creating beautiful spaces for families is a hallmark for HGTV and the fact that so many celebrities want do the same for the special people in their lives is truly inspirational.”
